Tom Schuler (1940-2001):

A Tribute to Tom Schuler

Thomas Wray Schuler was born in Jackson, Michigan in 1940 to Walter and Julia (Dulworth) Schuler. He grew up in Jackson along with his younger siblings, Mick and Sharlie.

Tom spent his high school years in Niles, Michigan, where he enjoyed building model airplanes and playing baseball and football teams. Tom graduated from Niles High School in 1958 and then served in the Air Force.

After the Air Force, Tom attended Western Michigan University and studied Art and Education. He graduated in 1966 and taught in Grand Haven. On October 14, 1967, Tom married the former Judith Renfroe in Grand Haven.

Tom left the teaching world and became a well-known and respected car salesman, working at Port City Volkswagen (later called Your Import Center) in Muskegon for over 30 years.

Ultimately, Tom was a devoted family man. Tom and Judy had two boys (Foley in 1971 and Toby in 1973) and raised them in North Muskegon. Tom and Judy always wanted to spend time together as a family, supporting the boys in their interests and school activities.

In 2001, Tom died tragically in a car accident in Muskegon. Still to this day, Tom is missed and remembered by many. Judy died in 2012 after a battle with cancer. Sons Foley and Toby carry on their memory.
